What Is RLDA

What Is RLDA. This is something all competitors completely skip. Before you apply for a job it is important to understand what RLDA is because it directly affects where you will work and what you will actually do.

RLDA is a part of the Ministry of Railways Government of India. The Government of India set up RLDA through an amendment to the Railways Act, 1989. This was done officially through a notification on 31st October 2006.

The main job of RLDA is to develop railway land that is not being used. There are 43,000 hectares of railway land across India that RLDA is working on. RLDA does projects like building offices, shops and homes near railway stations.

RLDA works on projects in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Chennai and others. As a Site Engineer at RLDA you will be in charge of making sure the construction work is going well at project sites in these cities.

Where you will work depends on which project needs people when you join.

RLDA is currently working on some projects these include:

  • Transit Oriented Development near railway stations
  • Railway Colony Redevelopment
  • Station Area Development
  • Commercial leasing and development of vacant railway land plots

Work Profile. What Will You Actually Do?

This section is really important for people who are thinking about applying for a job.. For some reason nobody else talks about it.

Site Engineer (Civil). Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

If you are a Civil Site Engineer at RLDA your job is to make sure everything runs smoothly at the construction site. You will check the quality of the concrete. Make sure it is mixed correctly. You will also check that the reinforcement bars are in the place according to the plans. Every day you will see how much work has been done and write it down in a diary. You will talk to the contractors and the people who work for them. You will check the bills they send you to make sure they are correct. You have to make sure that everything is done according to the plans and the rules. You will also go to meetings to discuss the site and tell the Project Manager how things are going.

Site Engineer (Electrical). Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

If you are an Electrical Site Engineer at RLDA you will be in charge of all the work at the site. This includes things like putting in cables and pipes and installing machines like transformers. You have to make sure that all of this work is done correctly and safely. You will work with people like consultants and inspectors to get the job done.

What Is MEP? – RLDA Site Engineer Recruitment 2026

MEP means Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing. It is all the systems that are installed in a building to make it work, like the air conditioning and the pipes. For the Electrical Site Engineer job it is a thing if you have experience with MEP systems because that is what the job is, about. RLDA even said so in their announcement.

We need to know some things about your experience.

1. You must have least 2 years of experience after you finish your degree in a field related to your qualification.

RLDA Site Engineer Recruitment 2026 – Selection Process

All competitors mention the selection criteria. None explain how it actually works. Here is what I found out:

  • Stage 1. Shortlisting

If RLDA gets a lot of applications they will first shortlist candidates before the interview. They use a mix of criteria to shortlist. They don’t share the exact formula.

The criteria are:

  • Salary: If you have a higher current or last salary you are more likely to be shortlisted. This is how RLDA filters for candidates.
  • Work experience: than 2 years of experience in construction supervision is preferred. Experience on government projects is considered very valuable.
  • Percentage marks in B.Tech: The your percentage, the better. If you scored above 75% or 80% make sure to highlight this.
  • M.Tech Qualification: If you have a postgraduate degree in Electrical Engineering it gives you an edge.
  • Prior experience in government or PSU: If you have worked in Indian Railways or any government or PSU for least 1 year you get extra points.
  • Stage 2. Interview

Now about the contract terms. The initial engagement is for up to one year on a short-term contract basis. After one year the contract may be extended based on your performance review the ongoing project requirements at your posting location and RLDAs administrative needs at that time.

The extension is not guaranteed. If your project is completed or RLDA does not require manpower the contract will end at the close of the initial term. The contract does not lead to a job. The RLDA notification explicitly states that this engagement does not confer any right for employment in RLDA. It is a fixed-term engagement, to a project-based consulting role, under a government body.
