What Is “First Half” and “Second Half” at Mumbai University?

Mumbai University conducts examinations in two sessions every year. Students often get confused about which session their result belongs to. Here is the simple explanation:

First Half (FH) — Summer Session: Exams are conducted approximately from February to May. Results for First Half exams are published as “First Half 2026” on mumresults.in. These cover the even-numbered semesters (Sem II, IV, VI, VIII) for most courses under the regular academic calendar.

Second Half (SH) — Winter Session: Exams are conducted approximately from October to December. Results for Second Half exams are published as “Second Half 2025” on mumresults.in even though they are declared throughout 2026. These cover the odd-numbered semesters (Sem I, III, V, VII) for most regular courses.

Why does “Second Half 2025” appear in 2026? Because the exams were conducted in November–December 2025, but the results are declared in early 2026. The session name refers to when the exam was held, not when the result came out.

NEP 2020 vs CBCGS vs CBCS vs CBSGS

NEP 2020 vs CBCGS vs CBCS vs CBSGS. Mumbai University MA MSc Result 2026 Scheme Difference Explained

Every Mumbai University student needs to understand this. The university uses four exam schemes. Your result PDF will have one of these schemes mentioned:

  • NEP 2020 is a scheme. It started from the 2023-24 year. The Government of India introduced it as part of the National Education Policy. If you joined in 2023-24 or later you are under NEP 2020. Your NEP 2020 results will show Semester Grade Points and detailed marks.
  • Look for NEP 2020 in your course name to confirm.
  • CBCGS is another scheme. It started around 2016-17. It applies to students who joined between 2016 and 2022. Many TYBCom BSc IT and MCom students use CBCGS. It uses a 7-point or 10-point grading scale.
  • Check your course name for “(CBCGS)”.
  • CBCS is a credit-based system. It applies to some PG courses, distance and IDOL programmes. Many MA and MCom IDOL students use CBCS.
  • Check for “(CBCS)” in your course name.
  • CBSGS is a scheme. It is used for some courses, like BPEd and certain UG programmes.
  • Look for “(CBSGS)” in your result.

What Is an “Office Register PDF”? — Mumbai University Result Format Explained

What is an Office Register PDF. This is what Mumbai University students are usually confused about when they see their results. No one really explains what it is.

When you go to the Mumbai University website, mumresults.in and click on a result link you do not see a page where you can log in. Instead you get an Office Register PDF document.

This Office Register is not like a mark sheet that belongs to you. It is actually a list that Mumbai University makes to show the results of all the students who took an exam.

The Office Register PDF has a lot of information including:

  • Seat Number, which’s also your Roll Number
  • Your name, as a Mumbai University student
  • The. Name of your college
  • The marks you got for each paper with theory and internal marks separate
  • The total marks you got
  • SGPA and Grade Points but only for students who are doing NEP 2020 or CBCGS courses
  • Whether you passed or failed and things like ATKT or KT or if you were absent

These Office Register PDF documents can be really long sometimes they have 50 pages or even more, than 200 pages. So you have to use the Find function to search for your Seat Number and find your result quickly in the Office Register PDF.

  • Try accessing the portal early, in the morning between 6 and 9 AM or late at night after 10 PM for speed.

Seat Number vs PRN vs Registration Number. What is the difference

Students often look for their results using the number. Let me tell you what each of these numbers means at Mumbai University.

The Seat Number, which is also known as the Roll Number is the number that is given to you for an exam. You can find this number on your Admit Card. Use the Seat Number to search for your result in the Office Register PDF on mumresults.in.

The PRN or Permanent Registration Number is a number that Mumbai University gives to you when you first join the university. This number is for you. It stays the same for as long as you are at Mumbai University. You will use the PRN to log in to the result portal and to use student services on mu.ac.in.

The Registration Number is sometimes the same, as the PRN.. When you are looking for your result on mumresults.in you should use the Seat Number from your Admit Card, not the PRN.

IDOL / CDOE Result — Why Is It Separate From Regular Results?

Many students studying through IDOL (Institute of Distance and Open Learning) — now referred to as CDOE (Centre for Distance and Online Education) — notice that their result is listed separately on mumresults.in, often with “(CDOE)” in the course name.

This is because IDOL/CDOE students write their examinations at separate designated centres and their answer sheets are evaluated independently from regular students. The result PDF for IDOL/CDOE courses is a separate file from the regular course result — even if both cover the same subject and semester.

If you are an IDOL/CDOE student, look specifically for course names ending with “(CDOE)” or “(IDOL)” when searching for your result on mumresults.in.
