The UP Board Scrutiny 2026 registration window is now open for Class 10 (High School) and Class 12 (Intermediate) students who are dissatisfied with their marks in the UPMSP 2026 board examinations. What Is UP Board Scrutiny? — And What It Is NOT
This distinction is critical and most websites explain it incorrectly. Read this carefully before applying.
What Scrutiny IS (Rechecking):
Scrutiny means a trained board official goes through your physical answer sheet and checks the following specific things:
- Whether every answer you wrote was evaluated and given marks by the examiner
- Whether any question or part of a question was accidentally skipped without marking
- Whether the marks given on individual answers were correctly added up in the totaling
- Whether the total on the answer sheet matches what was entered in the marks register
If any error is found in the above, your marks will be corrected — and you will receive an updated marksheet through your school.
What Scrutiny is NOT (Re-evaluation):
UP Board scrutiny is not a re-evaluation of your answers. This means:
- No new examiner reads your answers again from scratch
- The quality, content, or depth of your written answers is not re-judged
- You cannot get more marks simply because you feel you “deserved” more
- If the examiner correctly awarded 6/10 for an answer and totaling is also correct, scrutiny will not change that to 8/10
UP Board does not have a “re-evaluation” scheme where answers are re-read. Scrutiny is purely a mathematical and procedural check. If your dissatisfaction is with the quality of evaluation rather than with marking errors, scrutiny may not help.
UP Board Scrutiny vs Compartment Exam — Which Should You Choose?
This is particularly important for students who have failed or are borderline:
| Situation | Best Option |
|---|---|
| You passed but feel marks are less than expected | Apply for Scrutiny |
| You failed in 1–2 subjects and suspect a marking error | Apply for Scrutiny first, then apply for Compartment if no improvement |
| You failed and are sure no marking error — just less preparation | Apply for Compartment Exam directly |
| You passed but want higher marks for college admission | Apply for Scrutiny |
| You failed in 3+ subjects | Compartment exam is the primary route — scrutiny may help marginally |
UPMSP Scrutiny 2026 Fee ₹500 per Subject — Exact Calculation with Examples
The fee of ₹500 per subject is where most students make calculation mistakes. Here is the complete breakdown:
| Scenario | Subjects | Components | Total Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| One theory-only subject | 1 | Theory only | ₹500 |
| One subject with Theory + Practical | 1 | Theory = ₹500 + Practical = ₹500 | ₹1,000 |
| Two theory-only subjects | 2 | Theory × 2 | ₹1,000 |
| Three subjects (2 theory-only + 1 with practical) | 3 | ₹500+₹500+₹500+₹500 | ₹2,000 |
| Five subjects (all theory-only) | 5 | Theory × 5 | ₹2,500 |
Key Rule: Written (Theory) and Practical are always counted as two separate units even if they belong to the same subject. If you want scrutiny of both components, you pay ₹500 twice.
Is the fee refundable? No. The ₹500 fee per subject is non-refundable under all circumstances — whether your marks increase, stay the same, or decrease after scrutiny.

What Happens After You Submit Your UP Borad Scrutiny Application 2026?
The UPMSP starts the scrutiny process once the deadline of 17 May 2026 passes. This process happens in phases.
- Phase 1 is Application Processing. UPMSP offices check if all applications are complete. They look for a form an original challan and a registered post. If an application is incomplete it gets rejected away.
- Phase 2 is Answer Sheet Retrieval. The board collects answer sheets from exam centres. This takes a weeks because they have to manage papers from many centres across UP.
The scrutiny process continues with:
- Phase 3. Scrutiny Checking. Officials check each answer sheet for mistakes like questions adding up errors and writing mistakes.
- Phase 4. Result Preparation. If they find mistakes they update the marks. Then they prepare a result for students who had changes.
- Phase 5. Result Declaration. The UP Board Scrutiny Result 2026 will be out, in July 2026. They send updated marksheets to schools and students get them from their school.
UP Board Class 10 12 Scrutiny Result 2026 Marks Increase Decrease What to Do
If the UP Board Class 10 12 scrutiny result 2026 shows that your marks increased: your school will get a marksheet with the revised marks. You should collect this marksheet as soon as possible. The new marks are the marks now. You will use this new marksheet for all admissions, competitive exams and official work.
If the UP Board Class 10 12 scrutiny result 2026 shows that your marks stayed the same: the board says they did not find any mistake in checking your answer sheet. So the original marks are final.
If the UP Board Class 10 12 scrutiny result 2026 shows that your marks decreased: this can happen too. If the people who checked your papers found that you got marks than you should have they will correct this. For example maybe there was a mistake when they added up your marks. When the scrutiny result is out it is final. You cannot. Ask for another check.
This is an important thing to know. No other website tells you this clearly. If you passed the exam and are just a little unhappy with your marks think carefully before asking for scrutiny. You should only ask for scrutiny if you are very close to getting a grade or if you think there was a mistake, in checking your papers. For example if you wrote a lot for a question that was only worth a marks but you got very few marks then you might want to ask for scrutiny.
