The Reasoning and English Language tests are like a test to see if you qualify. The marks you get in these tests do not count when they make the merit list. Only the marks you get in the Professional Knowledge test count when they decide who is the best. You still need to get the minimum marks in the Reasoning and English Language tests to qualify. The good thing is that you will not lose marks for getting an answer wrong, in the Online Written Examination.

SBI Law Officer Recruitment 2026 – Selection Process & Weightage

  • The Online Written Test is going to be held in August 2026. It will take place at centres across India, such as Lucknow, Kanpur, Meerut, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata and a lot of other places.
  • When it comes to Shortlisting the Online Written Test results are used. Candidates who score at or above the cut-off in the Professional Knowledge test and also get the qualifying marks in the other papers are selected for the Interview.
  • The Interview is very important. It carries 100 marks. The number of candidates called for the Interview is decided based on how they did in the Online Written Test. The Interview selection is done in such a way that there are candidates from each category.
  • The Final Merit List is made by giving weightage to the Written Test and the Interview. The Written Test gets 70% weightage. The Interview gets 30% weightage. This is done after the scores are normalized.
  • If there is a Tie-Breaking situation, where two or more candidates get the cut-off marks then the ranking is done based on age. The older candidate is ranked higher.
  • A Wait List is also maintained. It is made post-wise and category-wise. The Wait List is valid for 1 year from the date the final result is declared or until a new advertisement is issued, whichever happens first. The Online Written Test and the Interview are both important, for the Final Merit List. The Online Written Test and the Interview are used to select the candidates.
