GTU Grading System 2026 – 10-Point Scale Explained

This is something no other website explains clearly — GTU uses a 10-point grading scale where your marks in each subject are converted into letter grades and grade points. Here is the complete grading table:

Marks RangeLetter GradeGrade PointsMeaning
91–100AA10Outstanding
81–90AB9Excellent
71–80BB8Very Good
61–70BC7Good
51–60CC6Average
45–50CD5Satisfactory
35–44DD4Pass
Below 35 (Appeared)FF0Fail
Absent / Not appearedII0Incomplete

Minimum to pass any subject = 35 marks out of 100 (35%).

If a student scores below 35 in any subject, they receive FF grade in that subject and must clear it in the next session through Remedial exam.

How GTU SGPA and CGPA Are Calculated

SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is the grade point average for a single semester.

Formula:

SGPA = Σ (Credit of Subject × Grade Point of Subject) ÷ Total Credits of Semester

Example: If a student has 3 subjects with credits 4, 3, 3 and grade points 8, 7, 6:

  • SGPA = (4×8 + 3×7 + 3×6) ÷ (4+3+3) = (32+21+18) ÷ 10 = 71 ÷ 10 = 7.1

CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is calculated across all semesters:

CGPA = Total Credit Points Earned ÷ Total Credits Attempted

Approximate Percentage from CGPA:

Percentage = (CGPA × 10) – 7.5

This formula is used by GTU-affiliated colleges for percentage conversion on certificates and job applications.

GTU ATKT Rules 2026 – What You Need to Know

The GTU ATKT rules are a provision by GTU that lets a student move to the semester even if they have not passed some subjects. This means they do not have to repeat the year. Here are the main GTU ATKT rules:

A student can carry forward up to 4 subjects they failed from semesters into the next semester.

If a student has than 4 subjects they failed they are not eligible for the GTU ATKT rules and must pass the pending subjects before moving ahead.

Students who are under the GTU ATKT rules can attend their semester classes while also appearing for the subjects they failed in the remedial exam.

The GTU ATKT rules apply to students doing BE, Diploma, MBA and most UG/PG programs at GTU.

Practical Tip: If you fail one or two subjects do not worry. The GTU ATKT system lets you continue with your studies. You should clear the subjects you failed in the next remedial session. Do not let the subjects you failed pile up. The GTU ATKT rules are there to help you so use them to your advantage. Keep moving forward with your studies, at GTU.
