What is JP University, Chapra?

Jai Prakash University — officially named Jai Prakash Vishwavidyalaya — is a public state university situated in Chapra, Saran district, Bihar. It was established on November 22, 1990 under Section 3(b) of the Bihar State Universities Act, 1976.

The university is named after the legendary freedom fighter and social activist Jayaprakash Narayan (JP), who was born in Saran district. This gives the university a special historical and cultural significance in the region.

What is the 4-Year CBCS UG Programme Under NEP 2020?

From the 2022-26 batch onwards, JP University has shifted to a 4-year undergraduate programme under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, following the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS).

Here is what this means for students admitted in the 2026-30 session:

Duration: 4 years (8 semesters) instead of the old 3-year degree

Multiple Exit Options:

• After 1 year → Certificate
• After 2 years → Diploma
• After 3 years → Bachelor’s Degree (3-year UG)
• After 4 years → Bachelor’s Degree with Honours / Research (4-year UG)

Credit System: Students earn credits through core courses, elective courses, skill enhancement courses, and ability enhancement courses

Academic Bank of Credits (ABC): Students must have an ABC ID linked to their DigiLocker account. This is mandatory for admission in the 2026-30 session.

Why does this matter? Unlike the old 3-year degree, the 4-year NEP programme is nationally and internationally recognized at a higher level and opens the door to direct PhD after 4-year honours graduation.

Eligibility Criteria – JP University UG Admission 2026

For BA (Arts):

• You need to have passed your Class 12 exam from a recognized board.
• The minimum marks required are between 33% to 45% aggregate. This can vary depending on the college.
• Government colleges usually require 45%.
• You can apply for BA (Arts) from any stream. Arts, Science or Commerce.

For BSc (Science):

• To apply for BSc (Science) you must have passed Class 12 with a Science stream, which includes subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Math or Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
• You need to have least 45% aggregate marks in your qualifying exam.
• You should have studied the subjects related to your specialization at the Class 12 level.

For BCom (Commerce):

• If you want to apply for BCom (Commerce) you need to have passed Class 12 from any stream with least 45% marks.
• Having a Commerce background is preferred,. It is not necessary for all colleges.

For BBA, BCA or BJMC:

• You can apply for these courses if you have passed Class 12 from any stream with a minimum of 45% marks.

For LLB (Law):

• To apply for LLB (Law) you need to have completed your Graduation from a recognized university with least 45% marks.
• You also need to qualify the JPU LLB Entrance Exam, which is conducted offline by the university.

General Conditions:

• There is no age limit for most of the undergraduate courses at JP University UG Admission 2026.
• The university accepts students from boards, like BSEB, CBSE, ICSE, ISC or any recognized State Board.
• If you are appearing for your Class 12 exams you can apply provisionally. Your admission will be confirmed only after you submit your final marksheet.

Payment Mode: Online — via Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI

Note: As per the previous year’s pattern (2025-29 session), the application fee was ₹500 for all categories. This is expected to continue for the 2026-30 session. Confirm on jpvadmission.ac.in before paying.

How to Apply for JP University UG Admission 2026

All applications for JP University UG Admission are submitted online. You can find the application portal at jpvadmission.ac.in.

• Step 1: Go to the JP University Admission website at https://www.jpv.ac.in/notification/categories/admission And https://jpvadm.samarth.edu.in/
• Step 2: Click on the “Register” button for user registration..

• Enter your personal email address.
• Enter your number and make sure it is active.
• You will receive a verification code.
• Create a password. Keep it safe.

• Step 3: Log in to your account and click on “Apply Online” for UG Admission 2026-30.

To fill out the application form follow these steps:

• Step 1: Enter your details like name, date of birth, gender, category and ABC ID.
• Step 2: Enter your details such as class 10 and 12 marks, board and year.
• Step 3: Choose your courses and colleges.
• Step 4: Upload the required documents, like your photo, signature and certificates.

Make sure you complete each step before moving on to the one.

• Step 5: Review all your details carefully.
• Step 6: Once you are sure click “Submit”. Pay the application fee of ₹500 online.
• Step 7: Download and print your application confirmation. You will need it later.

JP University UG Merit List 2026. How They Choose Students

JP University makes the JP University UG Merit List 2026 based on the marks you got in Class 12. They do not have an entrance exam for BA, BSc and BCom courses at JP University.

Here is the Merit List Process:

• Round 1 – First Merit List:

They will release this list in June 2026. If your name is on the JP University UG Merit List 2026 you have to get your documents verified and pay the admission fee before the deadline. This is to make sure you get a seat at JP University.

• Round 2 – Second Merit List:

They will release this list for the seats that’re still available after Round 1. This usually happens in July 2026.

• Round 3. Mop-Up Round:

This round is for any seats that’re still empty at JP University. It usually takes place in July or August 2026.

• Sports or ECA Quota:

There is a JP University UG Merit List 2026 for students who are good at sports or have done well in extra-curricular activities. You need a certificate from a known state or national sports body to apply under the Sports or ECA Quota.
