Selection Process. Advt. 01/2026 (GATE Route. 276 Mining Posts)
The GATE Route for Mining Posts does not have a written examination. The selection of Mining Posts candidates is based on the GATE-2025 score.
The selection process for Mining Posts has a stages.
Stage 1 is the shortlisting of candidates. This is based on the score in Mining Engineering. The top candidates are shortlisted in a 1:3 ratio against the vacancies. This means that for every one vacancy three candidates are shortlisted per category.
Then there is Stage 2 which’s the Document Verification. In this stage the shortlisted candidates for Mining Posts are called for verification of all their certificates, GATE scorecard, category certificate and other documents.
After that there is Stage 3 which’s the Medical Examination. This is the medical fitness test as per the CIL norms for Mining Posts.
Finally the Final Merit List for Mining Posts is prepared based on the score after the Document Verification and Medical clearance.
For the GATE Route a good strategy is to look at the shortlisting ratio and the number of vacancies. Since the shortlisting ratio is 1:3 and there are 276 vacancies, candidates with a GATE MN 2025 rank within the 300–400 in the General category are very competitive for the GATE Route. However the actual cutoff will depend on the CILs formula for the GATE Route.
Selection Process. Advt. 03/2026 (CBT Route. 660 Posts)
The CBT Route for posts has a selection process.
The first stage is the Computer Based Test. This test is conducted online. It takes 3 hours to complete. There are two papers in the Computer Based Test. Paper I which’s General Aptitude and Paper II which is Professional or Technical Knowledge. Each paper has 100 marks and 100 MCQs. The test is bilingual which means it is in English and Hindi. There is no marking for the Computer Based Test.
- To qualify in the Computer Based Test candidates need to get a number of marks.
- For the UR or EWS category the minimum qualifying marks are 40 marks per paper.
- For the OBC NCL category the minimum qualifying marks are 35 marks per paper.
- For the SC or ST or PwBD category the minimum qualifying marks are 30 marks per paper.
- After the Computer Based Test there is Stage 2 which’s the Document Verification.
- Then there is Stage 3 which’s the Medical Examination.
It is important to note that there is no interview or group discussion at any stage for either the GATE Route or the CBT Route. The final selection for both routes is based entirely on the GATE score for the GATE Route or the CBT marks for the CBT Route, after the Document Verification and Medical clearance.
